What's New

Here are some of the latest developments in my artistic life.

My portrait of a model, Man in Plaid, won Best in Show in the April all-media show at the gallery of the Alexandria Art League.  For those who don’t know the gallery, it is located in a wonderful arts venue called the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.  Artists’ studios fill three floors of the old Navy torpedo factory on the Potomac River.  I have been a member of the Alexandria Art League for many years and have been juried into enough shows each year to display a painting and shrink wrapped work in “the bin room” off the main gallery.  Each month’s show is very competitive, and I was thrilled to win a Best in Show award in April.

Earlier this year, I was contacted by the Director of the Dennis and Phillip Ratner Museum, located in Bethesda, Maryland.  The museum was founded by the sculptor, Phillip Ratner and his brother.  Philip Ratner’s commissioned work graces the grounds around the Statue of Liberty and on Ellis Island among other locations.  The Director had found my website and wanted to see some of my work in the flesh, so to speak.  The upshot is that I will be part of a group show in May 2014.  Be sure to mark your calendars so you don’t forget!  I’m afraid I will.

Finally, I will be the Artist in Residence for the month of October 2010 in the Stone Tower at Glen Echo Park in Glen Echo, Maryland.  I was selected based on a proposal and images I sent to the person in charge.  The Stone Tower studio is operated by the Yellow Barn Studio  in Glen Echo Park where I have taken many painting classes over the years.  During that month, I will be working in the tower (or on the grounds of the park) at least 30 hours a week and will give a lecture/demonstration and hold a reception. I am very excited and will have a lot of new work displayed on the old stone walls.  I hope you come by and visit!.
